# Notifications Your in-app notification feed — everything the association or the system has sent you, in one place, with filters and read/unread tracking. > **A note on this guide:** written by actually viewing a real resident's > notification feed and interacting with it directly — marking a real > notification as read and confirming the unread count changed, then > reverting that one notification back to unread afterward so the account > was left exactly as found (still showing its original 6 unread of 8 > total). No destructive actions were tested (there's no delete on this > page), so there was little else to clean up. 🎥 **See this in the walkthrough video:** [Resident Walkthrough, starting at 0:15](https://myaccount.joantool.com/demo.php?video=resident&t=15) ## 1. What shows up in the feed Click **🔔 Notifications** in the sidebar (the badge next to it shows your current unread count). Each entry shows: - An icon and type tag — **Board Announcement**, **Maintenance Update**, **Payment Reminder**, or **Vote Open**, confirmed as the real, currently possible types for this account (the type filter dropdown only lists types that have actually happened, not a fixed master list). - A title and message — confirmed against real examples: a payment reminder ("HOA Dues Due in 7 Days"), a past-due follow-up ("Final Notice: HOA Dues Past Due"), a maintenance status change quoting the actual update note a board member left, a new vote announcement, and routine board announcements (pool hours, a gate code reset, a landscaping schedule). - How long ago it happened (e.g. "1d ago," "3w ago"). - A **📧 emailed** tag on notifications that were also sent to your email, not just posted in-app — some notifications (like the two HOA Dues reminders in this test) are in-app only. - A **View →** button on notifications tied to something specific to go look at — confirmed directly: a payment reminder's View button takes you straight to Payments. - Either a **✓ Read** button (unread items) or plain text reading **"Read [when]"** (already-read items) — this is easy to misread as two different label styles for the same thing, but it's actually an action vs. a status: unread notifications get a clickable button, read ones get a timestamp instead. ## 2. Marking things read Click **✓ Read** on any single notification to mark just that one read — confirmed directly: the sidebar badge and the "(N unread)" count at the top both dropped by one immediately, and the button was replaced by a "Read [x] ago" timestamp in place. **Mark All Read** (top right) marks everything read at once. This wasn't tested directly in this pass, to avoid marking this account's real, otherwise-untouched notifications as read — but it's the same underlying action as the per-item button, just applied to everything at once. ## 3. Filtering the feed Two dropdowns, both confirmed working directly against real data: - **Type filter** — narrow to just one type (Board Announcement, Maintenance Update, Payment Reminder, Vote Open). Filtering to Payment Reminder on this test account correctly dropped the list from 8 total down to the 2 real payment reminders. - **Read/Unread filter** — All, Unread, or Read. Filtering to Unread correctly showed exactly the 6 unread items. Once either filter is active, a **Clear** link appears to reset back to the full list. ## 4. Notification preferences There's no settings/preferences control on this page itself — what triggers a notification and whether it also emails you is controlled from **⚙ Profile Settings**, under **Notification Preferences** (covered in full in [New Resident Onboarding](new-resident-onboarding.md#5-complete-your-profile)). This page is purely for viewing and managing what's already arrived. --- That's the whole page: a real feed of what's happened on your account, filterable by type or read status, with per-item or bulk read-marking — confirmed working exactly as described, no findings from this pass.
